2 hours

I decided to try running for two hours instead of wondering how many miles I was doing. The weather has warmed up a bit, so I thought I would hit the road with Phoebe this morning. I went outside already to leash the dog and it was precipitating. Not much, but I sort of panicked. (How is that spelled?) I got out a rain proof parka but Leslie told me that even if I got wet I would be warm. So, I changed my mind again and went in my original running attire. I did it. I ran two hours minus five minutes. I should say, we did it because Phoebe did it too. She had energy to spare unlike her mom. I don't think my form was the best and I won't set any records for speed, but if my current average running speed of a 15 minute mile was consistent, I ran about 8 miles. I was feeling pretty tired by the last half hour. I will have to work up my stamina to more than two hours though. Yea Thais!

Well, I am finally posting my inaugural blog. Not just on this blog but on any blog. I feel very high tech.

The cold weather is tough for me. I prefer running in 90 degree heat over sub-freezing temps. But it does not do any good to whine so you have to deal with it. Last winter I basically quit running and didn't start again until April or May. I'm getting soft. But I've been better this year and it's due in large part to our planned participation in the Memorial Marathon or 1/2 marathon in this case. So while I have not been running as frequently, I have kept up at least once or twice per week. I ran 4 miles last Saturday and it wasn't too bad. Temp was in the 30s with some wind but really not bad, especially compared to Sherry and Curtis. You guys are sick up there. In November I had run 5 miles a few times and 7 miles on one occasion but that was my high. Then I slowed down and have been mostly running 3 or 4 miles just to maintain a little training. I need to start pushing it and build up my endurance. This Saturday is supposed to be 52 with light wind so I'll try push it a little bit more. I think I can go an hour without too much trouble but going two hours plus is a different story so I definitely need more training. I think someone said the race is in May which sounds far away but when you think about it, if you have two long training runs each month (one in January since we're halfway through), that is only about 7 long runs between now and the race. This concerns me.

I'm rambling. I look forward to reading everyone's posts.

Same wavelength

I guess I am on the same wavelength as Sherry, because after running today I thought I should post also. I am a wimp and have not been running outside. My main excuse is that there is snow and ice on the ground in places and I don't want to fall. It is also cold and even though one warms up when running it is hard to get going. So, I have been running on the track at the Murray Park Centre. I am up to four miles, but it isn't easy. I am running about a 13 minute mile. It is my goal to run five miles this week.

Today I ran two miles on the track and two miles on the treadmill. There were boys from the basketball and soccer teams running on the track at the same time and they were wild. I don't know if they were from Murray High School or not because they seemed kind of small. Anyway, they ran in a group and thundered around me as I was running in the middle lane. The last boy in the line would go around and get in front of the group, then the last boy would repeat, etc. I found it somewhat intimidating so I decided to use the treadmill. I really worked up a sweat and my heart rate was 160 or so. I had to slow down and walk for a minute before I could finish my second mile. My bra was really wet as was my hair on the back of my head. Next time I must tie up my hair because it kept getting in my face.

I am kind of discouraged because I don't feel like I am improving. I guess I am, because two weeks ago I was only running three miles.

I too want to hear from everyone. It is fun to read the individual posts.

Training begins??

So since it is now January and we are supposed to be running in the Memorial May 1, it is probably time I try to do some consistent running. So I ran Saturday and today! Yay me. I haven't ran since the week of Christmas. I would say I have averaged about 1/week since Thanksgiving. That is the joys of winter. Saturdays run went okay. It was a little over 3 miles and the weather was pleasant. I didn't' even need a hat. Today, however, was a bit chillier. Curtis and I started out in a whoppin 14 degrees. That is chilly! We opted to face the light breeze at the start which was a good choice, but after 12 minutes, I had to go in a building to warm my hands, toes and face up. Once we were away from the wind, it was practically balmy and towards the end my arms and torso were a bit sweaty! We finished at just under 5 miles (4.9) and a lovely 18 degrees. All and all, it was decent. I don't know if anyone is looking at this but I do expect you Okie people can get those temps with a good north wind. So, everyone, jump back on the blog. I like reading it.
