Well, I am finally posting my inaugural blog. Not just on this blog but on any blog. I feel very high tech.

The cold weather is tough for me. I prefer running in 90 degree heat over sub-freezing temps. But it does not do any good to whine so you have to deal with it. Last winter I basically quit running and didn't start again until April or May. I'm getting soft. But I've been better this year and it's due in large part to our planned participation in the Memorial Marathon or 1/2 marathon in this case. So while I have not been running as frequently, I have kept up at least once or twice per week. I ran 4 miles last Saturday and it wasn't too bad. Temp was in the 30s with some wind but really not bad, especially compared to Sherry and Curtis. You guys are sick up there. In November I had run 5 miles a few times and 7 miles on one occasion but that was my high. Then I slowed down and have been mostly running 3 or 4 miles just to maintain a little training. I need to start pushing it and build up my endurance. This Saturday is supposed to be 52 with light wind so I'll try push it a little bit more. I think I can go an hour without too much trouble but going two hours plus is a different story so I definitely need more training. I think someone said the race is in May which sounds far away but when you think about it, if you have two long training runs each month (one in January since we're halfway through), that is only about 7 long runs between now and the race. This concerns me.

I'm rambling. I look forward to reading everyone's posts.

  1. Yay Ross!

I wouldn't sweat being ready by the first of May too much. If you start trying to do a good 5 or 6 miler on the weekends, you could push that up a mile every couple of weeks or so and you should be doing 9 or 10 mile runs by that time pretty easily.

  2. Trust me, I don't downplay your wind in Oklahoma. We really don't even know what wind is here. We ran again Saturday and it was in the 40's. Go figure.
