9.9 miles

Last Saturday I ran two hours on a route which turned out to be 9.9 miles. I ran up onto the U of U campus, although not much of it. It was also hilly. I was exhausted by the time I was finished. I was tired all day. I also developed a blister on my left big toe which is still there a week later. I also had a very sore left second toe. It appears to be bruised. It was kind of a tough run and is somewhat frightening to me. How will I handle 13.1 miles?

I also bought some new shoes. They are Aesics and are designed correct my pronating gait. They certainly feel snug.

  1. That is way cool Thais!! You probably didn't realize you had gone that far. The Salt Lake 1/2 is a gentle downhill for at least the first 4 miles and basically flat until you start up the hill towards the Brigham Young gate thing. When you get there you are at 12 so I know you can do it!! Yay!!!!!

  2. If you think about it, you basically ran 10 miles here, and the half marathon is "only" 3 more miles. As they say, no matter how tired you are, or how sore, it's not too difficult to think "well, I can go 1 more mile". So at the end of that one more mile, you do it again...until you're done.

I know you can do it. My longest run last year before SLC was only 6 miles. You've already done 10 and still have over a month to keep working on it!
