I ran 4 miles last night and really focused on my pace. I have a song on my iPod that I've found sets the perfect tempo for me to run to so I listened to a playlist that leads off with that song as I ran. I ran two miles before a stop because of the better pace. A quick pitstop after the second mile then ran two more with a minute or so of walking between those. I did start to peter out a bit on the fourth mile but that was more due to sore calves than anything else. But what I was really impressed with was I did the 4 miles in 40 minutes--10 minutes a mile. Not much slower than my per mile average the previous day when I was definitely going too fast.
I'm sure that right now I couldn't maintain that pace over the course of 13 miles. In fact I'm not sure I could maintain it over the course of 6 miles, but I've still got three and a half weeks to get there! (LOL).
You'll bet there. I have faith! Sue hadn't run more than 8 I think last year when she ran her 1/2. In fact, she may have ran only 6.
