Training hard

So, I've been training for the marathon for about 7 weeks now. Last fall I got the hair-brained idea that, since I'm tuning 50 this year, I ought to celebrate by running a full marathon. I found a training schedule for older idiots on line and started earlier this spring. I immediately caught a cold and lost a week of training, but then got into a semi- rythm before my back went out - for the first time in 4 years! After three weeks of recovery - lots of stretching/strengthening exercizes, I'm back on track and just ran 16 miles today. The weather was awful - raining and low 40s but i completed my run in under 3 hours. The last three miles were the hardest! This has me a bit worried, but carefully optimistic about having to add 10 more miles to that, but we've still got a month to go before the race.
I'm really excited that Sherry and her Sibs are going to run together and I hope they will post on this blog with the rest of us. We're all sad that we have to make allowances for the errant brother Ross who seems to be struggling with priorities right now , but I'm sure we'll find a way to forgive him in the distant future! We're also hoping that Sherry's dad, John will come to cheer us all on.
Thanks to RJay for getting this thing going!
